Contemporary Designs in Oak & Pine Chests of Drawers

The chests of drawers continue to capture the imagination of the user as well as the designer. One of the more recent variations of the chests of drawers design is the one by Tejo Remy, a Dutch designer. His chests of drawers design titled “You Can’t Lay Down Your Memories,” became an important message for the reuse and recycle movement. This design, which has gone on to create history of sorts was made from 20 secondhand drawers, which he picked up from various second hand markets all over Europe.

He then bound them all together with jute strap. One of the first chests of drawers he made is now at the Museum of Modern Art. This method ensures that no two oak & pine chests of drawers are alike; the rather crazy way in which they are assembled, gives out a sense of vibrancy. Each drawer has its own stamp of individuality.
